Following the launch of decent work campaign on 9 March 2019, the first decent work training and campaign kick-off on 10 March 2019 at Crystal Crown Hotel, Petaling Jaya.
The researcher at Monitoring Sustainability of Globalisation Ng Yap Hwa explained the concept and key indicators of decent work agenda, a framework developed by ILO in 1999 as a policy response to globalisation and economic liberalisation.
The speaker also briefed participants about proposed amendments to Employment Act 1955 made by 55 trade unions and NGOs. There was a good discussion on workers’ bonus, maternity leave, discrimination, probationary period and the others.
In the next two months, the Decent Work Working Group will continue to organise the trainings and campaigns in other major cities in West and Eat Malaysia.
